Optimizing Traffic

There is website traffic that is more valuable than others. You can't just focus on traffic in general, you have to know which traffic is going to generate AdSense clicks...

I'll say it right off the bat, bought traffic, meaning traffic that you paid for, is 90% of the time going to be useless in terms of AdSense. That is because most paid sources of traffic don't bring real people with a real interest to your topic.

So which types of targeted traffic are going to generate the greatest CTR (click through ratio)? There are mainly two types of traffic that have proven in general to be very proficient for AdSense publishers.

Search engine traffic. Hit the 3 big ones: Google, Yahoo, and MSN. People that find your website through a search engine are probably still looking for more information. That user mentality results in clicks. Take it one step further. Find out exactly which search engine is generating the most clicks.

Article traffic. This is website users that read an article that you published in an article directory and have come to your website looking for more information. Once again, these users are looking for information and are more likely to click on relevant ads.

Those are just two general sources of traffic. Each website topic works differently with AdSense. You have to test which traffic sources work best. The best free method for that at this point is by linking AdSense to Analytics.

The good news is that Google is rumored to be officially adding AdSense statistics to Analytics sometime soon. Which will give AdSense publishers the ability to compare the CTR values of different traffic sources.

Finally, once you know which traffic sources are the most valuable, go back and see if you can increase the traffic coming from there! More quality traffic can only mean more AdSense income.
