Quality Content vs CTR ParadoxThere is a paradox when it comes to websites with AdSense units. Too much quality content does not encourage readers to click on AdSense ads. Yet quality content is what brings in traffic in the first place. What to do... First you have to know why this happens, why AdSense click-through ratio (CTR) drops if your website has extensive content. People click on ads because they are looking for more information. Since Google AdSense displays ads based on your content, that means readers have to click on ads because they want to know more about your topic. With that said, if you give readers all the information they need, there is no need to click on AdSense ads. But the number one rule of traffic generation for websites is to have unique, quality content. WIthout it, then people have no reason to even come to your site at all. So here is what you have to do. Provide a mix of very detailed content and very general content. Keep readers on their toes. Users don't always want to read long articles anyway, sometimes they prefer light reading. Both styles of writing can result in important clicks on AdSense units. Also establish a "culture" of linking users to related websites that give further information. Then it will become natural for readers to click on valuable links that lead away from your website. It seems like the last thing to do if you want to make money with AdSense. But if you lead users to valuable information, they'll come back every time...
